The application process, which determines if an offer for coverage can be made at all, varies from person to person. One thing that does remain the same for each applicant is that the process begins by completing an online application, and from there, there are three basic paths for the application to take:
Path #1
Whenever possible, we'll make you an offer immediately upon submission so you can obtain coverage right away.
Path #2
In some cases, you may not be eligible to apply for this term policy. If that happens, you’ll be notified right away and won’t be able to submit your application for further review.
While this means you’re not eligible for this specific term coverage, we may show you other coverage options that could better fit your needs.
This is not the same as being declined after an underwriting review. No additional evaluation of your application has taken place at this stage.
Path #3
If an immediate offer (or an immediate decision of ineligibility) cannot be made, your application goes to our experienced team of underwriters for a closer look. During this process, we might need a bit more info, like answering a few more questions, providing some documents, sharing medical records, or setting up a speedy health check. It's all to make sure we're giving you the best decision possible!
If you are asked to take a health exam:
We make the health exam as easy as possible. You’ll be asked to schedule an appointment with a qualified examiner to come to your home or office around your schedule, at no cost to you. Here’s more on what to expect from the life insurance health exam.
NOTE: Not all applications will receive an offer for coverage. If our underwriting team reviews your application and decides not to offer coverage, you’ll receive a formal decision letter in your online account with more details about that outcome.
