Does my kids investment account get a W-2?
No. Kids investment accounts (“UGMA”) do not issue W-2s. W-2s are for wages from an employer.
If the account earned investment income (like dividends, interest, or investment sales), the custodian may receive a Form 1099 instead (most commonly a Consolidated 1099). This income is generally reported under the child’s name and SSN, but the parent/guardian typically includes it when filing taxes.
If the account had no reportable activity, there may be no tax forms at all.
