If a claim is submitted with all required information, it is typically processed as quickly as possible.
What to expect
Claims are reviewed once all required documentation is received
If everything is in order, payment can often be issued within a few business days
Timing may vary depending on the insurer and whether additional review is needed
When claims may take longer
Most life insurance policies include a two-year contestability period. If a claim is filed during this time, the insurer may need to:
Conduct a more detailed review to confirm that application information was accurate and complete
Take additional time before a claim can be paid
Claims may also take longer if there is an active investigation into the cause of death (for example, by a medical examiner or other authority).
In these cases, payment cannot be made until the review is complete.
Processing timelines by policy
Policies purchased before September 3, 2022 (Vantis Life)
Claims are typically processed within 3 business days once received in good order
Claims under investigation will be paid after the review is complete
Policies purchased on or after September 3, 2022 (Western-Southern)
Claims are reviewed and paid as quickly as possible
Claims within the contestability period require review before payment
